Sea Explorers

The intake for our Sea Explorer Unit including boys and girls from 14 – 18 years is entirely taken from our Sea Scout Unit. The Unit meets on a Thursday night during the winter, and a Wednesday night in the Summer at the Weir View.

Our Sea Explorers participate in weekday evening activities on and off the water, recently including Emergency First Aid, Lifesaving and Survival Skills, as well as the typical Nautical Skills badge work. 16 Explorers attended Espionage Camp earlier in the year and other activities included visits to Jump-in and Ice-skating.

The Sea Explorers have the opportunity to continue to develop their sailing and powerboating skills through a combination of regular Sunday and Thursday evening sailing sessions and more formal sailing and powerboating courses where they can earn the nationally recognised RYA qualifications.

We run an annual week-long summer camp that is always well-attended due to the range of water and land-based activities that we organise. Recent camps have been held at Weymouth, Burnham-on-Crouch and Lymington.

Due to the number of our Sea Scout Unit who carry on to join our single Sea Explorer Unit, we are not able to offer places to young people who are not already 14th Tonbridge Sea Scouts.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
