About Us

The 14th Tonbridge was inaugurated in 1947 and has become one of the largest groups in Kent, with waiting lists for all of its sections.

One of the 103 Royal Navy (RN) Recognised Sea Scout Groups, the 14th is a proud member of the scheme and retaining the RN Recognition is one of the group’s highest priorities. The scheme monitors participants against key parameters such as membership figures, activity logs and badgework achievement through an annual census. This information is used to set the RN contribution to a fund for RN Recognised Scout Groups which has been of great benefit to the 14th Tonbridge on many occasions.

RN Recognition gives us access to a variety of military facilities. We regularly visit HMS Bristol (moored alongside HMS Excellent at Whale Island, Portsmouth), and we have used Baker Barracks (Thorney Island) and the BMSTC (Mohne Dam, Germany) for Summer Camps.

The Group is a Royal Yachting Association Training Centre, awarding RYA training certificates in Dinghy Sailing and Powerboating to its members.

In 2009, to address rising numbers and the increasing popularity of scouting in the area, a new Scout Section (The Port Troop) was opened to complement the existing (Starboard) Troop.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
